Types of Presentations
There are five types of presentations: single oral presentations,
group oral presentations, late breaker oral presentations,
roundtable discussions, and poster sessions. All oral presentations
will be 90 minutes and roundtables will last 45 minutes. Single oral
session abstracts will be accepted individually and combined into
sessions by track chairs, typically three per session. Group oral
session abstracts will be accepted as a group of relevant papers
that are organized and submitted together by the abstract authors
(also 90 minutes). Roundtables will be accepted with a maximum
of two facilitators per abstract and organized by track.
Roundtables will be highly competitive and limited in number. In
2009 a limited number of Spanish/English roundtables may be
available. Please indicate your interest in hosting a bilingual
session.
Single Oral Sessions
(Session Abstracts Submitted Individually)
Oral sessions provide an opportunity for conference participants to
hear the latest information on a topic from individual presentations.
Single oral sessions are presented in lecture style for a large
group, but not all conference participants. Room configurations
will allow for questions from the audience. Single oral session
abstracts will be accepted individually and combined with other
presentations into 90-minute sessions by the conference track cochairs.
Group Oral Sessions
(Session Abstracts Submitted as a Group)
Group oral sessions comprising an expert panel or specific group
of presenters provide an opportunity for authors to combine their
presentations and submit together as one 90-minute session. A
limited number of these sessions will be available in the
conference program. Some authors submitting group oral
abstracts may be asked to turn these presentations into single oral
sessions. Group oral sessions are presented in lecture style for a
large group, but not all conference participants. Room
configurations will allow for questions from the audience.
There are two ways to submit abstracts for a group oral session.
Authors may submit one summary abstract outlining the objectives
for the entire panel, along with the names of the speakers. Or,
authors may submit up to four individual abstracts together as one
group oral session. In either submission method, all information on
each speaker must be completed and accompany the abstract(s).
Late Breaker Oral Sessions
To accommodate breaking news of scientific and programmatic
developments that have surfaced in the weeks following the
abstract deadline, a limited number of late breaker abstracts may
be considered for inclusion in the program. This is a separate
abstract submission process. Additional information about the
submission of late breaker abstracts will be available in late Spring
2009 on the conference Web site.
Roundtable Sessions
Roundtables provide an opportunity to informally discuss
programmatic and scientific topics with a group of conference
attendees. The format for a roundtable will be one to two experts
on a topic, relevant to one or more of the conference tracks,
serving as hosts for the dialogue. Conference participants are
seated in a circle to facilitate active participation in a 45-minute
discussion. Those interested in facilitating a roundtable should
submit a roundtable abstract.
Poster Sessions
There will be two sessions for posters during the 2009 National
HIV Prevention Conference.one on Monday, August 24, and one
on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. This presentation format should not
be confused with an oral session. The conference organizers will
determine how the posters will be grouped once all confirmations
have been received. Authors will present posters on their assigned
day. Information on poster size and presentation day/time will be
sent to authors after abstracts have been accepted.
